  • Oakland Drive Park 7550 Oakland Dr, Portage, MI, 49024, USA - Portage
There is a very consistent group of players that uses the sand volleyball court at Oakland Drive Park. This court is preferential to other courts in the area because of its lovely placement east of some trees (which we are so thankful we're trimmed this spring. Thank you!), it's routine raking and care, and the chain link fence that until this summer was partially surrounding the area. It was recently brought to my attention that the type of fence that might be replacing the original is one with a nicer appearance but also would allow volleyballs to pass through. If this is correct information we urge you to consider an alternative. The chainlink fence served a wonderful purpose of keeping balls in the area. Since it has been removed we spend much of our time chasing balls down the hills and it has impacted enjoyment of the court. We understand if the chainlink is not an option because of appearance and in that case would love to see another option that would have small enough spaces to stop a ball. If the fence does not serve this purpose there really is no reason to put one in. It will just become an additional obstacle to go around to retrieve balls. Thank you again for providing such a wonderful area to play volleyball in our City. Sincerely, a Portage Resident

This home was hit by a truck over a month ago and the front porch was taken off of the house. The garbage from this is still sitting in the front yard. I don't really want to complain, but I feel there has been plenty of time to get this cleaned up. It is a distraction and it smells really bad. :( Any news on a timeframe? What is the hold up? Thank you :) :)

Why has the city spent so much money on an app, in particular, the plow trax , if it's not going to keep it updated. This morning at 8am, the message was NO ACTIVITY. If that was true, why not? The plows should have been out salting long before 8am. At 9am, the message stated plows were out salting. But there was no indication on the map where the plows were. This is an issue that happens a lot. If not updating and using it as it was programmed, why did we spend the money on the program? Also, the "current" news portion is 2 weeks old! No one updating this on a daily basis? What good is it to have an app that's not reliable?

The people that live at this address always have a car parked blocking the sidewalk from use. They seem to have too many cars for their driveway and their solution is to park over the sidewalk making pedestrians having to walk almost to the street to get around the car or on their property.

    Two things:
    1. Garbage pickup is Tuesday, resident keeps the cans out on the curb EVERY week at least until Thursday, and today, Friday, it's still out on the curb.
    2. Blue tarp on roof of garage is unsightly. Been there since last fall.
These things are what brings down a neighborhood. Everyone tries to keep the residences tidy and this just brings down the appearance of the neighborhood. Good thing I'm not trying to sell my house, no one would want to live here.

Haverhill Ave Portage, MI, 49024, USA - Portage
The Kalamazoo Gazette advertisers have someone tossing plastic bags with weekly store flyers. I don't want them. And because I live on a corner, I get TWO! Take a walk around the Haverhill neighborhood, Milham Rd to Westnedge, and you will find lots of bags, torn open, papers and plastic blowing all over. This is LITTERING. If I tossed garbage out my window, I'd be fined. I cannot get in touch with the Gazette, but residents should have the option NOT to have one of these bags of flyers every Saturday. And many residences don't bother to pick up the papers, therefore, they pile up. Again, there is an ordinance in Portage against littering. The Gazette should only deliver these to people who want them. And people shouldn't have to go outside and clean up their property of garbage.

I am a frequent user of the portage city bike path. recently I have seen some things that are quite concerning. I have seen people smoking pot on the trail (near bicentennial park), i have seen people coming out of the woods onto the trail who look like they may not be there for just a walk (dealing or delivering drugs maybe-also by bicentennial park), and Sunday My wife and I were riding on the Eliason portion of the trail and had to move out of the way of 2 motor cycles coming up from behind us. As they passed us I let them know that the trail is for non motorized traffic only and they really didn't care. They were meeting up with a vehicle at the end of the business park road off of melody (maybe drug deal? ) My question is, Is there a way of having some sort of police or park personel presence to deter such activities?

As reported in issue ID 4261783 there is a concern for speeding on Milham, specifically between Westnedge and Oakland Dr.

A day does not go by where someone passes me doing at least 45mph, if not 50mph. As someone who drives this road at least 4 times per day, many times more, I have only seen a police officer with speed traps only a couple times, one of which was the first day of school.

While I am not in favor of unnecessary speed traps, this stretch of Milham continues to be a drag strip and a concern. Furthermore, no one seems to ever pay attention to the Constitution/Milham intersection traffic light. Either 3 cars on Constitution heading for West bound Milham run the red light, or distracted drivers on Milham blow through red lights/slam on their brakes last minute.

This is a school zone so it would be great to see traffic slowed down, though I do not think school times are problematic given the traffic congestion. It would be great to see increased presence of Police Officers during off-peak school times, such as 8am-2pm and 4pm-8pm.

Caller reported that the resident living in the rental home at 6813 Shoreham drives a very loud car. She is of the opinion that the resident frequently and intentionally "revs" the engine during the late night / early morning hours.
