Description
There is an owner of a black lab who has been walking his dog without a leash. Every day this dog defecates on our newly landscaped property. I have asked this gentleman to please either pick up after his dog or please walk him on a leash. I do not even care if the dog defecates on the lawn, but the owner is not picking it up; that is the problem. I do not consider this issue closed and would like a full resolution to it.
Now, this is the last time I will be posting anything and this is my last warning. Ben, I have already contacted the police, and I need to be able to give them the name and address of this dog owner. How can I get that from you? Or can I give you my contact at the police station?

Yeah, I have friends on the force, thanks for the tip.
just want someone to tell the guy to pick up after his dog, and for him to start doing it...that is all... no more no less.

yes, thank you for the suggestion :) Already put it down, bought all three actually (twice). Did not work and I picked up feces again this morning.
Where is the administrator named Ben that was supposed to talk to this guy? I guess he did not speak to him since there was a fresh pile this morning.

Hi Jon,
I will go to there house this weekend and speak to the mother and let them know. I will also ask the block watch captain if he has an email and send this over to them.
Thanks,
Ben

I said something to the owner's Brother-in-law this weekend and sent him an email with this issue.
The owner is understanding but does need to know that it bothers more than just one of his neighbors so please do say something politely if you see him with the dog off the leash.

It's not about the leash, again to all of the people who want to write negatively and make rude comments, we have already spoken to the guy twice.
All we want is for the guy to be respectful and pick up after his dog and not leave it on our landscape. And again, maybe the people that wrote negatively are incapable of retaining information, WE HAVE SPOKEN TO HIM TWICE

Hi Ben,
The Black Lab was again off of his leash today and I found two new piles in my front yard. This is why I did not want the issue closed, because I new it would start again. Will you please let the owner know that it needs to stop. If it can't be stopped then there will be consequenses for the animals in my yard.

This dog just defecated in the front of my yard on humphrey st and the owner didn't pick it up. this isn't the first time this has happened, and apparently (based on this thread...) this is an ongoing issue and has been for a very long time.
the dog is always off-leash and not close to the owner and this appears to be part of the problem. i'm not even sure the guy notices what the dog is doing half the time. also, on a related note, it is illegal to have the dog off-leash. regardless of whether the dog is friendly (which it obviously is), I should not have to encounter it (or any other dog) off-leash while i'm walking my dog. it needs to be kept on-leash, in accordance with the new haven leash laws.
Jon-- I'm not sure what you mean by 'consequences for the animals' in your yard. as someone who is a very responsible dog owner, i hope that you aren't considering anything that could be harmful to dogs.

Hi guys,
As a neighbor (not as SCF admin) I have talked to the owner (who I believe you are speaking of) in the past but it seems not to have stopped. Has anybody else talked to him?
For me the biggest problem is when I walk my dogs and the big black dog approaches them sometimes making my dogs barky and jumpy.

Hi Ben- Thanks for speaking to him previously. I went out after him today but by the time i got outside he was already down the block. (i didn't rush outside immediately because i thought he might come back to clean up, which he sometimes does. next time i'll be quicker.) i don't have a problem saying something to him, esp now that i know this is an ongoing problem and not just the case of someone occasionally forgetting bags.
I also have a similar problem that when the big lab approaches us it makes my dog jumpy/barky. sometimes he comes so far into the side yard that it's an issue even if we're in the backyard. my dog was badly attacked in east rock last year, and frankly, it's really terrifying when we encounter a dog off-leash and without a person. i realize this is my issue, but it would be nice if the guy could at least keep the dog close to him. the whole situation is just very strange-- i'm surprised the guy doesn't worry about the safety of his dog in terms of cars pulling in and out of driveways. anyway, i will also say something to him if/when i see him next.
