The traffic light @ 21 & Garfield is terribly mis-timed. 21 Mile Rd traffic is consistently backed-up at the light in both directions while Garfield traffic moves freely through the light with no (or little) back-up.

Actually the speed limit on Hall rd. from Hayes east to 94 is 50 mph not 45. Also Garfield from Hall-22 Mile is a 2 lane road at 50 mph that I live near and have no problems with. Widening makes all roads safer by having a center lane for turning and reducing rear end accidents and creating a way for emergency vehicles to get around traffic.

I live the 21 Mile & Garfield intersection and I must say there has been noticeably more traffic accidents here, especially after a year of trying to implement a new style of traffic light timing. The rotation from yellow-red-green is now varied and not consistent. This new rotation of color seem dependent on time of day, amount of traffic, number of left-hand turns. Most accidents seem to involve the younger people and elderly drivers, in addition the latest accidents seem to be at greater speeds, higher impact that makes for a more violent accident and leading to fatalities.
This intersection (along with a few others in the area) may just be a trial test for the Macomb County Road Commission on the way to implement a new style of traffic light timing and rotation practices,… but please return our signals to the older method which most drivers are very familiar using. In my opinion this seems more an issue of road commission malpractice where a safe condition was made into a very unsafe situation. Some public education is also necessary and would be a great benefit.

These new signals have now been approved as standard state guidelines and are being installed throughout the entire country, so drivers should become familiar with their operation.
Cut and paste these links to your browser for great info on how these new signals work:

Adjustments were made to east and west bound 21 Mile timing. I hope this has helped the traffic flow.
In the future, please email us at geninfo@rcmcweb.org or call our Traffic Dept at 586.463.8671 regarding any road related issues. Thank you!

This light needs attention. Why pay for intelligent signals when traffic backs up without any oncoming cars?
For example at 6:30 am each day for the past month
Westbound 21 Mile Road - the left arrow is solid without ANY oncoming eastbound traffic.
Southbound Garfield - light does not sense lack of traffic on 21 Mile Road
If someone from the Road Commission would monitor the flow at this tme it would be easy to ee.
UGH
