Current Issue: Approximately 80% of water flow in gutter on East Side of Jewell approaching Mission - crosses Jewell and flows down the gutter on North Side of Mission. There is a large drain at Jewell and Mission which is therefore under-utilized. Additionally, this situation creates a water hazard on Jewell and the water runoff down Mission puts significant pressure on two gutter weaknesses on Mission between 100 and 118. This situation has gotten significantly worse since the county made a change that impacted drainage West Seaview (approximately 2 years ago).
This situation was reviewed with a representative of San Rafael Public Works in February of 2023. The determination was that this is a potential issue, that the correct solution would be to re-grate Jewell to drive the water to the drain at Jewell and Mission. Advised nothing in the budget to address, likely 3-5 years before anything could be done.
Could a low cost / low tech solution be implemented - lining sandbags along the gutter line from the driveway at 10 Jewell to the corner where the drain is. This would direct the vast majority of the water to the existing drain - thus minimizing the water hazard and gutter issues.
