Doing a rolling stop is inexcusable. I go down O'Neil often and see it for myself. I always stop fully and i get a horn honking or the finger...There are children playing on the weekends..Some times I have to do a little of a running stop on Vandeusen because of the drug dealers, if you stop they run to the car and ask if you want anything..

They can't read so why should we expect them to. Just like the speed limit signs-they can't read those either. Just take a drive from Port Ewen into Kingston where there are multiple 45MPH speed limit signs. Everyone is doing 60 or better.

Midtown is the worst for it because there are stop signs all over the place. Let the COPS start giving out a blitz of moving violation tickets and watch things get better. Oh wait- they have more important things to do blah blah blah. It's a safety thing! Why have them if they don't enforce it?

So what's the status here?

I certainly can relate - I won't let my kids play on the street side of the house, but why do we always rely on government to fix all our problems? Hello people - we need smaller government for less taxes. The idea of stationing a cop to enforce stop signs sound like a real waste of tax dollars. Perhaps they can drive through more often and watch for problems (cruising the city IS worthwhile in my book), but consistent police present at a stop sign? simply doesn't sound like a good solution.

Let's figure out strategies to encourage compliance - stop sign cameras? Taking video? When I'm walking my neighborhood in uptown, I certainly will step out into the street to get the attention of drivers who are being stupid. And I do report licence plates. But those aren't perfect solutions either. Better placed stop signs could help.
