This morning there were over 9 boats dumped in the Encinal Basin. The majority of these boats were towed into the basin by a man n a small dingy boat. In the last couple of years, this continues to be a problem causing garbage in the basin and people from the boats climb the ladder to chairs that they have chained to the fencing at the end of the basin , along with tables, and have gatherings there. So far two such boats have sunk in this basin causing the city to retrieve the boats at great cost but also as important leaving a large spill of oil and other damaging substances from when the boats sink. I don't understand why this continues to be allowed to this point. PLEASE use our harbor patrol boats and officers to take care of this matter before another boat sinks!

The reason this is allowed is unfortunately because of libe.ral demo.crat policies that allow criminals to do whatever they please with impunity. Alameda has historically been a nicer and safer place than Oakland, but that's rapidly changing now that they're refusing to enforce so many laws and more criminals are coming into Alameda from Oakland.

Case and point: Just take a look at what's happening on Park Street right now. The streets are full of gang members from Oakland but the police aren't doing anything. They're loitering on the corners with their friends selling drugs and bragging about all the crimes they commit while their compatriots drive recklessly down the street violating numerous laws, blasting their loud rap music and performing dangerous manuevers. At this rate, In 10 or 20 years Alameda will look just like Deep East Oakland looks today

Looks like the site is censoring my posts again. Anyway I don't remember exactly what I typed so I'll just paraphrase: Case and point: Look at what's happening on Park Street right now. There's criminal g.a.n.g. me.mbers all over the streets from Oakland. They're driving recklessly down park w hile blasting their vulgar rap music, they're loitering on corners selling d.r.u.g.s and bragging about all the crimes they committed. I'm sure that at least half of them are carrying il.l.e.g.a.l firearms, etc. What's the alameda police department doing about it? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Anonymous SCF user and other posters: you may be able to get enforcement of the "no boat dumping, no oil dumping, no gas dumping, etc." laws by contacting the Clean Water Workers at Public Works. You can post on SCF or call Public Works and ask for them. Either way they are pretty responsive and work well with the police, fire, PW Kerry (who is in charge of illegal dumping pickup and garbage issues--but probably not boats). You might also see if the Coast Guard and see if they are interested in more boats being dumped. Perhaps it is appropriate to call 911 when you see a man dumping 9 boats in one day? Although I guess you can't be sure they are dumped until he leaves them there, so that might not work.

The chairs and tables were brought in by someone with a van and he spent several weeks cleaning up the area so people could have a nice place to sit and enjoy the estuary. No connection to the boats in the basin. I'm happy that he did it.
