It has now been 4 days since the blizzard hit. I feel that I've waited an acceptable amount of time for the plows to clear Exchange St. Once again the city has grossly mismanaged it's resources at the tax payers expense. Now that downtown is cleared it might be nice if people could get out to go to the stores. It has taken far to long to get the city cleared. As a tax payer I would like to see the public works plan and time line to clear the snow out of the neighbor hoods. You would think with all of the recent practice the city has had with these very issues this should be a cake walk.

i just drove thru east haven . the streets are 100 times better then new haven. didnt they have the same storm? new haven sucks.

The city received 34 inches of snow in less than 24 hours, THIRTY-FOUR INCHES. All the "recent practice" in the world will not help with that kind of volume. If you signed up for phone updates you would know that the first goal is to open all main arteries in order for emergency vehicles to pass through, followed by secondary streets and widening of the main arterial lines (call 946-SNOW (7669) for more details). Add to that the fact that idiot drivers keep going out on the roads and getting stuck and in the way of the snow plows / front end loaders, and it's definitely going to take some time to get all the streets plowed. Exchange St is not a main artery. Neither is my street, which is why we wait it out or hike to the nearest bus stop when CT Transit starts a full schedule again. Patience, please.

Just talked to someone who was proud of the fact their car got stuck six times in the snow today alone. Purpose was to buy cigarettes. As long as people are out for non emergency reasons it is going to take a lot longer to clear the roads.

Give me a break. Have you been following the city's bulletins? They have been devoting most of their taxpayer-funded resources to digging out and towing the cars abandoned on city streets by idiot taxpayers who have insisted on acting as if the city's repeated requests NOT TO DRIVE UNTIL THEY CAN CLEAR THE STREETS don't apply to them. Plus, there should be no point in trying to get to the stores, since the city has repeatedly begged ALL EMPLOYEES to stay home so as to get their cars off the road so the city can plow.

If we all behave like members of a team instead of whining that somehow "they" have not done the impossible, then "they" might actually be able to get something done on behalf of all of us.
