Alder Brenda Foskey-Cyrus is requesting that speed humps be installed on Bishop Street, between Whitney Avenue and State Street, to help with traffic calming measures. She states that cars can be seen regularly speeding on Bishop Street making it a major safety concern for other vehicles and pedestrians. Please alert us of your plans to address this. Thank you.

We have the same problem on Lawrence Street, particularly between Orange Street and Whitney Avenue, since the traffic calming measures were installed on the Orange-Whitney block of Edwards Street. To avoid the Edwards Street traffic light at Orange Street and the speed humps/table, drivers opt to use Bishop and Lawrence Streets to travel at high speeds between State Street and Whitney Avenue. Perhaps both these streets should be addressed?

I work from a second-floor office overlooking Bishop between State and Orange so all day every weekday I witness cars and trucks careening down the street. Buses even! The worst are, as everyone knows, the tow trucks, which seem to be doing at least 60 mph.

Please introduce some traffic calming measures, and soon!

For goodness sakes! Have you driven on Bishop this past year?? There's no way anyone could speed -- it's a tie-rod smasher of pot holes from orange to state!!

Actually it is only from about 55 Bishop to State that is pock-marked but the holes have been filled in, for now. You should hear the landscaping trucks come barrelling down Bishop and hit the rumble. The empty-ish FedEx and UPS trucks make quite the racket, too. But nothing stops them in their quest to circumvent a stoplight.
