Usual Friday eve, traffic gridlocked here, but now it blocks an ambulance with lights flashing and siren blaring. No one moves. Meanwhile the tunnel-bound cars block the intersection, in the middle of Manhattan, a mile or so away. They HONK forever, and make screechingly bad noise heard blocks around, with impunity for the $350 no honking signs two blocks away in either direction. Where are any police?

10/14. its 6:30pm . Honking car horns have been pretty constant since 4:30. took an ambulance 10 minutes to go from Lafayette to Crosby along broome. Intersections are blocked. Why dont we get tracfic agents?

yes, I saw the Beth Israel ambulance trying to get through, obviously to go west, they drove one block on Broome then cut dwn Broadway, horns blaring sirens in full force the WHOLE TIME.

No this is NOT fixed now January 2012 and the noise and congestion continues daily.

February 2012, not fixed. at 6:15 this morning a driver had to honk 6 seconds of irritation just to warn another driver he meant to cut in front. why? could not wait 3 seconds? the noise is misery-making.

sept 2012. what the picture shows: cars blocking the intersection. This blocking of the box,happens across all the north/south bound streets as the WEST bound traffic simply takes over the street, inching themselves towards the tunnel. So they complain, they HONK. they honk incessantly, and the noise reverberates for a 5 block radius. It is awful, and NOT FAIR that no one tries to stop this noise pollution.This is to show that blocking the box is also dangerous to others, blocks ambulance. this is only one shot, but it happens frequently.
