Just saw a piece on the CTV news featuring our alderman Lee Atkinson telling how crime in P.A. is up 51% and how many times Mr. Atkinson himself has been the victim of crime. I have the utmost respect for Mr. Atkinson, but if he is unable to get results from our city police, it leaves little hope for the rest of us. I'm posting this in the hopes that our local police can evolve from a call & respond police service to one that actively patrols in problem areas, such as midtown. After all, isn't that the purpose of SeeClickFix? To alert city officials to serious problems in the hope that they can resolve them? Lets see if we can get our police to increase their visibility in our high crime areas, because if they can't...what good are they?

I think a lot of people focus on how bad the west flat is and forget about the rest of the city. I, myself live in the west flat and I have no problems where I live (18 th ave) .I hear of more crime done on the east side of town. Anyways thats all I have to say.

The Police board is very specific in what they want, and don't like to budge when it comes to making the public happy. If he razes the board too much, he may find a dead hooker in the trunk of his car..

MIght want to check those stats a little bit. The 2010 year end stats are posted on the police website at: http://www.papolice.ca/papolice/Statistics.aspx

Midtown is zone 8 I believe. I don't see 51% in there, I see 6.1% in Zone 8.

To "Fact Check Time": according to CTV News, the overall crime increase in Prince Albert IS 51%. If you read the original post, I never stated crime in midtown was up 51%. The subject of the news story was alderman Lee Atkinson, who resides in midtown. Please inform yourself before you comment.

@ Mimi: I previously lived in the west flat, back in the late 80's, and I admit, where we were, there was less crime than there is now on the east side. There was primarily petty stuff, like trespassing, but you find that anywhere. Not sure what my old neighbourhood is like now, though.

One problem is, the police know who the bad ones are. There is just nothing they can do about it without sufficient proof! Like catching him red handed, they can't go search their places unless they have evidence that leads to them, not just the knowledge that this guy is a repeat offender.
They know who they are, and there's nothing they can do, blame our justice system which ALLOWS criminals to be criminals. The government is enabling these people. There is no incentive to stay out of jail.
But an increased police presence in the residential areas would probably help.

crime isn't up 6.1 per cent. Arrests are up 6.1 per cent. Doesn't that mean they CAUGHT more people this year?
