311 is a non emergency line when you call. It's for reporting all sorts of issues like pot holes, street lights out, and the city plans to dismantle a civil rights movement.

I don’t understand how a city can dismantle a civil rights movement. It’s beyond a man or an intersection, no? It’s taken flight and is worldwide. I don’t believe the movement could be contained in that intersection.

It just seems now people are fighting for an intersection and not civil rights. From the outside it looks like apples and oranges. Is BLM involved in saving the intersection? It doesn’t look like they are.

Sorry that was a little snarky of a response from me. It's a memorial. You're right that it is not the whole movement but the city is doing a lot of other things to try and derail the momentum like not putting a vote on the city charter on the ballot this November. This is a place of community, learning, and mourning and it is very important to the community. From the inside this is a very important and sacred space and the city has not asked for community input on what to do in this space.

I can understand what this could like like from the outside, but this is not just about an intersection, this is about justice. The people claimed the intersection in the name of justice, and it is the people who will decide whether or not it can be opened, not the city. There is a list of demands for justice that need to be met in order for the community to allow the thoroughfare open. And, to the person who wondered if this is what 311 is for, yes, it is! If There have been complaints via 311 that the intersection was closed, so complaining about a stated reopening is the same thing. Thank you!
