I think the speed limit should stay as is. I feel that anyone over the speed limit should be ticketed and fined. If you leave early enough you will not be late and will not have to speed or weave in and out. Get with it folks!

A month or so ago their was a lot of letter writing and opinion postings on the PottsMerc's website regarding a proposed law change to try and make things safer for younger drivers. Obviously the person who opened this was not in favor of that legislation. Increading the speed limit is a way to use more gas and increase the severity of accidents. I would instead advocate for demanding that the State Legislature give the police departments the tools they need to enforce the existing speed limits and that all of the area Police Departments do the job they are being paid for and enforce the law.

Actually I was very much in favor of this law, drivers that young should be policed more. I am also in favor of road tests every year for people age 70 and older because like young driver not having the experience, older drivers lack the reflexes and have too much fear to drive safely at the state speed limit of 65 MPH and they drive too slow and cause more accidents because people have to weave in and out to get around them. again to all the people that think 65 (the state speed limit by the way) is too fast. please take ridge pike, public transportation or have someone who is not afraid to drive the state speed limit drive you where you have to go.

I would like to see this happen as well, if you are too scared to drive then you should take Ridge pike. For all that oppose too bad, let the people that can drive get to work on time.

All you fools saying leave earlier apparently haven't lived around here long, 5 years ago you could leave by 6:30am and hit no traffic all the way to 76. Now their building so many developments traffics backed up by 5:45 am. Now I don't know bout you but who wants to leave 2-3 hours early for work when it should take 45 mins. Also GET OFF THE PHONE!! You can't drive as is you need no extra distractions your not that important.

agree completely. raise the speed limit it'll save lives and increase mileage since all new cars are made to perform optimally at 65!!!!

if people are speeding that is an indication the speed limit is to be RAISED not lowered! By law it should be set at the 80 percentile!

55 on 422 means more money in tickets, has NOTHING to do with safey. This is a great article about the subject.

Total nonsense. The limit is at 55. Most of the time, people will drive as fast as traffic allows. "Slower moving traffic is rarely going less than 55 unless other cars are moving at that speed.
The most traveled times are the slowest. So, increasing to 65 is not going to make an appreciable difference. I'm okay with the increase; but all that will really do is allow the few who stay within the limit to move 10MPH faster. Those doing 75-80 will still be moving the same rate and will have just as little control.
