issue.. and has met with 1st selectman brennan to discuss... as
several other towns in CT have already done.

Somehow I don't think nostalgia is a good reason for a needless train horn that can be heard for miles after midnight!

Why did you buy a house there to begin with? I live in another part of Wilton and only hear the train horns as a distant noise.

Isn't it possible that there was no train going by and blaring it's horn when they looked at the house???

The reason why we asked the town to consider the quiet zone after we bought the house is because the Federal law changed - after discovering the simple mandatory horn blowing at crossings did nothing to improve safety beyond gates across the road. therefore --- it is UNNECESSARY, USELESS, NOISE. no matter where you live in Wilton, you should have that right.

What is wrong with wanting to improve the area you live in???The law changed and the train doesn't need to sound it's horn anymore...The person now wants it to stop..What is so hard for everyone here to understand about that??

The reason trains blow their horns is to let you know they are near, so when you or your loved are playing near your train tracks they know to briskly step aside or they may not be coming home for dinner. If that was to happen the next post would go something like this " must have more horns on trains, grandma got squashed because her hearing aid broke and she did not hear the train coming"

People if you think the conductor is blowing the horn for fun, kindly open your imagination or better yet, type in train accident into google. This will show you exactly what happens when the train conductor accidentally forgets to blow the horn.

They blow the horn when they are crossing a road,not to alert people that are playing near the tracks..Now that the roads have gates they no longer need to blow their horn.I'm pretty sure people playing near the tracks would hear a train approaching without the horn.

I will tell you why -- because in 2010 the Federal Railroad Admin changed their long-standing rules.. and made mandatory horn blowing at road crossings optional if certain superior safety measures are in place.. such as gates with lights. why did they do this?? because a horn is a last minute warning that really comes too late to do anything. if a kid, car, cyclist, dog, whatever is on the tracks, blow the horn. a quiet zone doesn't forbid horn blowing, it simply makes it optional. I assure you, the engineers on the Danbury line get sick of it too... blowing 3 different blast sequences for each of a dozen crossings. So ban the mandatory horn blowing...keep the gates in top shape.. and keep the blasting on an as-need basis. the FRA knows better than you..
