It might be "the encampment" , but it can also be people coming from "over the hill".. 11pm to 7 , not many folk about , the culprits would stick out like a sore thumb walking around..I recall the 11 - 7 is when deep slumber overtakes the finest

A car was broken into on Foster Street two days ago. I reported it to the police. If there is an increase in car break-ins in the neighborhood it would be helpful if someone, the police or the alders, would alert the residents.

Ugh. Thanks for reporting. At any city meeting I go to the city appears to be all-in with See Click Fix as a single reporting tool, so spread the word to all of your neighbors to use it for any and all relevant issues. Also if anyone has any security cameras they can put to neighborly use, or had any running to check the footage from last night, that might not hurt either.

It isn't always "those people" at fault. Often, sure, but we've had folks living right in the neighborhood who go on crime sprees - burglary and vandalism. (This is directed at the comments - I fully agree that an uptick in crime is important and unacceptable. Besides, it'll tend to slip from packages on porches to car break-ins to outright mugging if not checked.)

Agreed, @Ravenclaw. Until the NHPD catches a suspect it's all just speculation. It is definitely frustrating though. And package thefts so seem to be on the rise. Make sure you spread the word to be reporting all such incidents to the NHPD and to SCF.

Mugging are already here. I was mugged at corner of Linden and Livingston in a sunny Sunday at noon back in August!

Have the police and alderperson been notified?

I live close by and have tried to notify the police several times about finding stolen property in my trash bins, attempted bike thefts, stolen packages, car break ins, and the like. They have always discouraged me from formally filing a report, and say there's no point unless there is a witness or video evidence that could identify a suspect, or unless an insurance claim was needed. I was told that such reports won't influence the department's allocation of resources since they have much more pressing demands elsewhere. What's to be done?

Keep calling the alderperson and the police district manager, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
