This report is the latest in a chain over the last several years asking for maintenance along the ditch on the north side of Providence Road. Using “providence road” as a search term and I found several Providence Road ditch reports. I am starting to see a trend: a report is made, a verified official or 311 assigns the issue, the responsible department acknowledges, a service request or work order is assigned, then CLOSED. Not much else leaving you wondering what was done. In earlier years the responsible department would provide action taken before responding with CLOSED. As the Public Works / Operations Stormwater Division we are responsible for maintaining stormwater infrastructure which includes maintaining ditches for flow and flooding. An investigation for flow and flooding shows no blockages and the ditch is performing as designed. Periodic removal of vegetation on this ditch is performed every 2 to 3 years. Landscape Services has recently removed vegetation from the roadside and behind the guardrail from along this stretch of Providence Road improving sight lines for traffic coming out of the neighborhoods. The request for further improvements of the sight lines has been forwarded to Traffic Engineering for review and they can be contacted at 757-385-4131 for the status of this request.
A Service Request has been created to spray for mosquitos along this ditch and future requests can be made by calling 757-385-1470.

the ditch that runs along Providence Rd, I drove each street and pulled out on to Providence Rd from Amesbury Rd, Timberlake Dr, Dunhill Dr and Charlestown Dr. The view is not obstructed at this time. I have not had any flood calls in this area and found no blockages blocking the flow of water.

PER MY EMAILS SENT ON 7/14/15 AND 7/24/15 I REITERATE, PUBLIC WORKS OPERATIONS PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY IS FOR QUANTITY AND FLOOD FLOW. For all of the reports, service requests and work orders there has been there has been nothing done to restore the outflow design capacity to the actual ditch or the RCPs under Admiration, Edwin, Amesbury, Timberlake, Dunhill and Charlestown Drives. All the CLOSED action appears to have been concentrated on clearing vegetation from the guardrail which looks nice but does nothing to improve the ditches outflow. I know that the Fox Run Canal/ditch is a separate issue but the Providence Road ditch empties into it and won’t be worked on until FY2021. Photos attached. I strongly urge you to take the action request by the reporter, VirginiaBeachCollaborativeNeighbor, and report as action is taken with a completion date before closing again.

WOW! Service scheduled for 2021. That's only a short four years or one thousand four hundred and sixty days or four more hurricane seasons away. Should we all feel relieved and hope that we can will away a similar catastrophe that has impacted Texas or Florida? Can we be certain that the funds will be available in 2021 and not be diverted to the ocean front as the 60M scheduled for Providence Road widening were? How many times are we going to ask for service to be denied or placated again and again? Why not include a budget request that funding for the Providence Road Ditch maintenance be moved to the next physical year rather that 2021. Sounds like an acceptable plan to me.

I just looked at all streets connecting Bellamy Manor Estates to Providence Road, i.e. Admiration to Charlestown. There is no obvious work done. I strongly urge you to take the action requested by the reporter, VirginiaBeachCollaborativeNeighbor, and report ON NEXTDOOR this thread, as action is taken with a completion date before closing again.
