Just out of curiosity, what exactly do "transient/addict people", look like? I am truly looking forward to your answer.

Unbelievable!

Here's the deal. Obviously there is a terrible homeless and drug problem in our area. Just drive down watt avenue and observe the people in sleeping bags on the sidewalk, inches from the street. I have seen several people literally curled up, asleep on the sidewalk next to the bus stop at the chevron station in the last couple weeks. Not hard to miss.

If we, as a society want to help make a better life for everyone, making excuses and allowing it to continue doesn't help the person. Do these people need help? Yes. But attacking other people because they see rampant drug use as a threat to their neighborhoods, home values and their right to a peaceful existence being threatened due to other people's life choices is "unbelievable!" to me.

If my observations are so objectionable, you might consider spending more time engaging in meaningful help in supporting the transients/addicts in getting the help they need, because getting super bent about my concerns and making snippy comments isn't going to make a life changing difference for anyone.

I live next to this house and don't enjoy having my car broken in to, or seeing the brand new family who just moved to our street having their house broken in to while they were on vacation, hearing the loud fights at all hours of the night, the tents in the back yard with rigged extension cords, or seeing one of the people I referred to, digging through the trash in her car (which is overflowing with empty bags, papers, and whatnot that falls out of the car in bucket loads every time she opens the door - which she doesn't pick up) while she was sporting a pair of thong underwear and tank top (yes her body was covered in what is widely known as meth sores), staring me down as I drove by with my child in the car. Hard to think of what to say to an innocent child who asks, "why is that lady outside in her underwear, why does she have sores all over her body and why is she looking at us like that? She is scary."

Anyway, here is my apparently eagerly awaited answer to your question regarding transients and addicts.

After a very short Google search for the definition of the word transient, here's what I found..."Transient is also a noun meaning a person who moves from place to place; a homeless person. The word comes from Latin transire."

Homeless people are quite obvious and abundant in this area. You can usually tell a person is transient because their appearance is unkempt (shaggy dirty hair, dirty clothes, extremely poor hygiene, bags of random possessions attached to their bikes, or the trailers they have attached to their bikes, sleeping bags, etc. and the trash they leave scattered all over the place when the move along to the next camp site - just take a little jaunt down Longview drive).

Another search for addict (specifically meth addict - because that's the real problem here) resulted in this description, "The effects of methamphetamine addiction and abuse can impact every single aspect of a meth user’s life. Meth is a terribly dangerous drug that can significantly change everything. The effects of meth addiction include:

Homelessness
Malnutrition
Incarceration
Financial ruin
Divorce
Domestic and child abuse
Full-blown toxic psychosis
Extreme paranoia
Impotence
Tooth loss
Compulsive, obsessive behaviors – tweaking
Alterations in memory and cognition
Violent behaviors
Functional changes in the brain
Behavioral changes
Brain damage
Decline in reasoning, motor skills, and judgment
Destruction of the body’s tissues and blood vessels
Inability for the body to properly repair damaged tissues
Anhedonia – the inability to feel pleasure
Increased infectious diseases
Seizures
Coma
Heart attack
Stroke
Death".

A meth addict is also very easy to spot. They have obvious and specific behaviors such as picking at their skin to the point of having open weepy sores all over their faces and bodies, extreme weight loss, missing/rotted teeth and odd jerky movements. If the above description doesn't make you feel concerned at the thought of having several addict/transients living next door to you, well then, good for you! :-) When these folks move along to another location, which they eventually will, hopefully it's next to you because you obviously win the "who is the better person contest".

I like to think "Julie" has better things to do than read thru 311 Complaints then be snarky about situations she may have no clue about... i prefer to think she was sympathizing with your plight & found it "unbelievable!" that you're forced to deal with these savages daily. 😁. But regardless, I do understand you being a smidge edgy as I live next to a property in Orangevale filled with folks you defined perfectly in your answer above... & it is, in a word, "unbelievable". You are right. I don't like getting scolded for speaking out about issues that directly affect the safety of myself, my family, the home that we work so hard to maintain, or our otherwise happy neighborhood because of someone else's choices. Maybe I was wrong in my interpretation of the replies to my comment. Anyway, I appreciate your understanding of the situation and support.
