Hi Doug,
I was entering Burnside Ave. from Bodwell Road this morning, when I
was overtaken by a car going West over 50MPH (the speed limit is
35MPH). He passed, narrowly avoiding an oncoming car.
I frequently see situations like this, with cars coming down the
hill at Wickham Park going over 50MPH.
We need speed bumps on Burnside Avenue and West Middle Turnpike(top and bottom of Wickham
Park hill) to insure than cars obey the speed limit.
Thanks,
Bob Hobbs

Hi Bob,
I don't doubt you for a moment. I'd love to see that driver lose his/her license for a while as a wake up call.
I've seen some kinds of speed bumps that work and others that don't. In Windsor they added bumps to a road and I visited some of the residents there only to be surprised.
They said the bumps just create a lot more noise as as drivers accelerate and decelerate three times on their block and the speeds are still dangerous.
I've seen larger, wider bumps work elsewhere ... they're big enough to bottom-out on in a car, but too large to speed over and ignore. Almost as wide as cross walks. And then there were lines painted on the road leading up to each one, to warn drivers. Seemed to keep people moving slower.
But in the end I think driver behavior doesn't really change until people grow up - and I'm not suggesting age is a factor, really.
At this point I think you can suggest to the police that they police the area, but give them a specific time when it'll matter the most. I think that helps.
