On Monday, Sept. 1, 2008 at 3:45pm, a silver VW "new" beetle, Connecticut license 345 ULG, ran through the red light at Whitney, heading east on Edwards, driving aggressively and compelling other drivers in the intersection to take evasive action.

I agree that safe driving is important. What are your thoughts on how this can be "fixed"? Is this an issue about one car or is there something structural to change at this intersection? What is the resolution here?

cc this kind of report to the New Haven Traffic Safety Hotline - 203-946-6956. Re-engineering intersections and roads like this is the right way to go but it's pretty clear the state and city don't place that priority very high on the budget - a cheaper and more immediately effective fix would be heavy enforcement by the New Haven Police Department - drivers in this town need a crash course in being considerate and making them pay big ticket$ and higher insurance will straighten out that kind of nonsense fairly quickly
